2010 census

Since 1940, Cape Verde has carried out population censuses systematically and periodically using traditional paper questionnaire methods. The first General Census of Population and Housing dates back to 1980. In 2010, as a result of technical cooperation between IBGE and INE-CV, Cape Verde opted to use mobile technology to collect census data. The sharing of experience and the know-how acquired made it possible to successfully carry out the first fully digital census in Africa, integrating geographical and alphanumeric information during data collection. This milestone in the history of the INE-CV gave the institution the opportunity to continue this electronic data collection in other statistical projects and to support the ANSD-Senegal in carrying out its digital census.
